La fondation Maurice Zermatten a été créée en septembre 2009 par les enfants de l'écrivain pour promouvoir son oeuvre. Le président de la fondation est Dominique Arlettaz, Recteur de l'Université de Lausanne.
Les buts de la fondation sont la mise en valeur et la pérennisation de l'oeuvre de l'écrivain. Ses membres se proposent de soutenir la publication d'oeuvres inédites, de favoriser des études sur l'oeuvre de Maurice Zermatten, et d'attribuer un prix littéraire Maurice Zermatten. La fondation ne vise qu'un but idéal et ne poursuit aucun objectif lucratif.
